0 Sony Xperia J (coming soon)

The Sony Xperia J is a midrange Android smartphone that follows the trend of putting bigger screens with a modest pixel count into mid-market devices. On the front is a 4.0" touchscreen display which might lead you to think that it was an HD or near-HD panel, but instead it's more modest 854 x 480 pixels, which is still good enough for almost all applications. Crucially this type of panel is cheaper than an HD panel, and when we look at the rest of the specifications we can see that this is a common pattern.

nside is a single core 1GHz processor with a minimal 512MB of RAM, coupled with 4GB of internal flash memory plus a microSD slot. On the back is a 5 megapixel camera with a VGA resolution camera on the front. This is a 3.5G smartphone supporting download speeds of up to 7.2Mps, and of course it supports WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity and has GPS.
Inside is a 1750 mAh battery, and the Xperia J measures 124 x 61 x 9.2mm and weighs 124 grams. Available colour schemes are black, gold, pink and white.
We don't know how much the Xperia J will cost when it gets to market, but our guess is that it should retail for around €250 when it hits the shops during Q4 2012.
